Book Botox at least 14 days before Diwali (8 November), so by about 24 October, because it takes 10 to 14 days to peak and a review visit may be needed. Book lip or cheek filler 3 to 4 weeks ahead, by mid-October, so bruising and swelling settle and any small correction can still be done.
The question people actually ask is not how long before an event should you get Botox in general. It is whether today is still early enough. As of 6 October, two of the windows below are open and one has closed, so the dates matter more than the explanation.
How many days does Botox take to show its full effect?
It starts in a few days and peaks at about ten, which is earlier than most clinics say.
DermNet's account of botulinum toxin is precise about it: "Muscle weakness is typically seen within two to four days, and maximal weakness or paralysis is noted around ten days."
So why does this page say book fourteen days out, not ten? Because the extra four days are not for the effect. They are for you. At day ten you can finally see the result in a mirror, in daylight, in your own face. The gap between day ten and the festival is what buys you an appointment to discuss it if something looks uneven. Book at ten days and there is nothing left.
Worth knowing for the longer view: DermNet notes that "After around three months, a working connection between the nerve and muscle is re-established", which is why the effect fades over roughly that period. What is involved is set out on our Botox treatments at Elegance Clinic page.
Why does filler need a longer gap than Botox before a function?
Because filler is physically displacing tissue, so it bruises and swells, and the published window for that settling is not precise.
The US FDA's guidance on dermal fillers puts it this way: "Most side effects associated with dermal fillers, such as swelling and bruising occur shortly after injection and many resolve in a few days to weeks."
Read that carefully. "A few days to weeks" is a wide range, and it is the honest state of the published evidence. The three-to-four-week rule on this page is our booking policy rather than a published figure, and it exists precisely because the published range is vague. You do not want to find out which end of it you are on two days before Dhanteras. Lips bruise more than cheeks, and a first-time lip filler is the least predictable of all.
The FDA also names the rare serious risk, and it belongs on a page that is encouraging you to book: "Filler that enters a blood vessel can cause skin necrosis (death of tissue), stroke, or blindness." It adds, in the same breath, "While the chances of this happening are low, if it does happen, the resulting complications can be serious and may be permanent." Both halves of that are true at once. Its practical advice: "Do work with a licensed health care provider who has experience in the fields of dermatology or plastic surgery and is trained to inject dermal fillers.", and never to inject yourself or use needle-free "pens". Our dermal filler treatments page covers what is used and how.
What is the last safe booking date for each area this Diwali, at a botox clinic near Adajan?
Dhanteras is Friday 6 November 2026 and Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026. Use the Dhanteras date, not the Diwali one. You are being seen and photographed from the 6th, so a result timed to settle by the 8th may still be settling when the first visitors arrive. The festival also continues past the 8th, so if your own key day is later, you get a little more room.
| Treatment | Onset | Peak effect | Typical swelling or bruising window | Last safe booking date for 8 Nov | Review visit date |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Botox, any area | Two to four days | Around ten days | Injection-site bruising and swelling, short-lived | 25 October. Use 23 October to be settled by Dhanteras. | Around 2 to 4 November |
| Cheek filler | Immediate volume | Once swelling settles | "A few days to weeks" per the FDA | 18 October. Use 16 October for Dhanteras. | Around 30 October to 1 November |
| Lip filler, not your first | Immediate volume | Once swelling settles | Lips swell and bruise more than cheeks | 11 October. Use 9 October for Dhanteras. | Around 23 to 25 October |
| Lip filler, first ever | Immediate volume | Once swelling settles | Least predictable of the four | 27 September. This has passed. | Not available for this Diwali |
Dates calculated from the two festival dates above. The onset and peak figures are DermNet's; the swelling window is the FDA's; the booking margins and the review dates are ours.
What if you have already missed the date?
Then do not compress the timeline to make it fit. That is the decision that goes wrong.
What is reasonable instead, in order of preference:
- Book for after the festival. Unglamorous and almost always the right answer. The treatment will still be there in December and you will not be assessing a half-settled result in front of relatives.
- Take Botox only, if you are inside fourteen days but outside ten. It will have reached its peak by the festival. What you give up is the review visit, so you are accepting the result as it lands.
- Do the things with no settling time. A proper skin consultation, a prescription routine started now, hydration and sleep. Less interesting than an injectable and more visible in photographs than people expect.
- Ask about a smaller, more conservative plan rather than the full one, if you are being seen soon. Less to settle, less to correct.
What is not reasonable is a first-ever filler this week. See the next section.
Which treatments should never be tried for the first time just before a festival?
Anything you have not had before, and lip filler above all. The reason is simple: you do not know how your own face responds, and a festival is the worst possible week to find out.
With a repeat treatment, your injector knows how you swelled last time, how long your bruises took, and how much you needed. With a first treatment none of that exists. You are guessing on the one date you cannot move.
In our practice, Dr. Ashutosh A Shah does not start a first-time lip filler close to a fixed event at all, and treats six weeks as the minimum run-up, which for this Diwali means the window closed at the end of September. That is a clinic rule rather than a published guideline, and it exists because the alternative is a patient who cannot enjoy her own festival.
Also not a good idea in the final fortnight: a new area you have never treated, a different product from your usual one, a clinic you have never been to, and any treatment where the person injecting cannot see you again before the date. Swelling after Botox specifically is covered in our post on swelling after Botox explained, and what to do before any appointment is in the patient guide before your appointment.
Next step
Check today's date against the table and work from the Dhanteras column. If the window for what you wanted has closed, booking for December is a better outcome than a compressed timeline, and it is the advice you would get in the room.
This page is for education and is not a substitute for consultation. The booking dates are planning guidance, not a promise that swelling or bruising will have settled by a given date, because that varies between people. Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine for a cosmetic appointment; raise it with the doctor who prescribed it. No dose, product volume or price is given here. Injectable treatments carry risks, including the rare but serious ones quoted above, and are only appropriate after an individual assessment by a qualified practitioner. Dates in the table are specific to Diwali 2026 and will need recalculating for any other year. Please consult Dr. Ashutosh A Shah about your own treatment and timing.
